“Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, ‘It might have been.’”
John Greenleaf Whittier
There are moments in life when it feels as if you’re stuck in sadness. No matter what you do, feelings of anguish, grief, or heartache accompany you. It can be quite difficult to get rid of this kind of “sticky” sadness when you continuously feel down.
While you cannot avoid feeling sad and sorrowful from time to time, you can do a lot about how you deal with these emotions. From early childhood on, we have been taught to avoid negative emotions as much as possible. So instead of working through sadness, we seek to eliminate it quickly, which only makes things worse.
Sadness may feel bad and unnatural but in itself, it isn’t something that is dangerous to you. Running away from sadness, however, only adds more layers of frustration and hopelessness on top of our negative emotions. To help you in welcoming sadness and working through it, we have created the following selection of quotes for you.
155 Heart Touching Sad Quotes [Ultimate Selection]
Trying to avoid negative emotions, in general, is not possible. In fact, ignoring it and trying to distract yourself from it may only make things worse in the long term. What really matters is to willingly approach the sadness you experience and to seek the root causes of it.
What makes the following selection of heartwarming sad quotes so powerful is that they contain thoughts and ideas of many brilliant individuals who themselves were confronted with sadness. Because of their own struggles with distress and hopelessness, these people have found beneficial ways to deal with sadness.

The bigger the tree, the bigger will be its roots. In fact, it is always in proportion. That’s its balance.”

“You must not be frightened if a sadness rises up before you larger than any you have ever seen; if a restiveness, like light and cloud shadows, passes over your hands and over all you do. You must think that something is happening with you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand; it will not let you fall. Why do you want to shut out of your life any uneasiness, any miseries, or any depressions? For, after all, you do not know what work these conditions are doing inside you.”

A Best Collection For Sad Quotes.
Thanks For Sharing.
Hi Steve,
thats a great collection of quotes! I like the third quote. You can’t prevent being sad without preventing being happy. They are two sides of the same coin. It’s like yin and yang. Sometimes the pendulum swings in one direction, sometimes in another. But that also means there will always be a next happy life experience.
Keep up the good work!
